Mrs. Rouse wrote the "In Old Santa Barbara"" column, a distillation of local news from 25, 50, and 75-years ago, for the Santa Barbara News-Press. She wrote it from 1953 up until she began writing a weekly history column for the same paper in 1962.
Mrs. Rouse was editor of Noticias, the quarterly history journal of the Santa Barbara Historical Society, from Fall 1977 until Spring 1987. She also authored many articles for Noticias during this period.
Mrs. Rouse retired from the News-Press and her column on February 17, 1991.
The articles making up the Rouse Olden Days The Way It Was Collection are arranged in six (6) scrapbooks:
Scrapbook No. 54 contains articles from 1962-11-04 through 1966-12-25
Scrapbook No. 55 contains articles from 1967-01-01 through 1972-02-06
Scrapbook No. 55A contains articles from 1972-02-13 through 1978-05-28

The materials are in generally fair to poor condition as they are the original on newsprint cut from the newspaper and pasted into heavily used scrapbooks. The pages should be queued for digitizing or reformatting.
